Clear Aligners for Adults in Athens, Winder & Watkinsville, GA

Discreet, Doctor-Designed Straightening for Real Adult Life

Your calendar is full. Meetings, carpools, deadlines, maybe a wedding or a reunion you have been circling for months. What you probably do not have room for is a smile treatment that announces itself. That is exactly where clear aligners come in.

At Classic City Orthodontics, clear aligners for adults are not a side offering. They are a full and central part of what we do every day for patients across Athens, Winder, and Watkinsville. Dr. Harter and Dr. Culberson personally design and manage every plan, so the person who plans your smile is the person you see in our chair. We aren’t in the business of aligners. We are in the business of building confidence.

Why More Adults Are Choosing Clear Aligners

Roughly one in three orthodontic patients in the United States is now an adult, according to the American Association of Orthodontists. The AAO also points out that healthy teeth can be moved at any age, because it is the same biological process whether you are 15 or 55. Here is what we hear most from adults who walk through our doors:

  • Discretion: Aligners are made of smooth, nearly invisible plastic. Wear them through presentations, client meetings, and date nights, and most people will never notice.
  • Healthier teeth: Crowded or overlapping teeth are harder to clean. The AAO notes that untreated misalignment can contribute to decay, gum disease, uneven enamel wear, and difficulty chewing.
  • Real food, real life: Aligners come out for meals, so there is no list of foods to avoid like there is with braces.
  • A second chance: Wore braces as a teenager and the retainer ended up in a drawer? You are in very good company. We treat shifted teeth regularly.
  • A life event: A wedding, a new job, a reunion, or a decision that this is the year. Whatever the trigger, we are glad you are here.

How Clear Aligners Work

Clear aligners are a series of thin, custom-made plastic trays. Each set moves your teeth a tiny fraction of a millimeter, and as you progress from one set to the next, your teeth follow the plan your doctor designed. Aligners come out when you eat, drink, brush, and floss, and go back in afterward.

At Classic City Orthodontics, your plan starts with a fast, comfortable iTero digital scan. No goopy impressions and no gagging. From there, we give you a few sets of aligners at each visit to wear one after another, and you come back every 8 to 12 weeks. Most adults wear their aligners 20 to 22 hours a day.

Invisalign® and SureSmile® Aligners: Two Excellent Systems, One Doctor-Led Plan

We offer both, and that matters, because the right system depends on your teeth, your bite, and your goals. We are a proud Invisalign® provider, and Dr. Harter has worked with SureSmile® Advanced technology since 2009. SureSmile uses a detailed 3D digital model of your teeth to plan precise tooth movement, and in many cases we print SureSmile aligners in our own in-house digital print lab.

Which one is better? Honestly, the answer is whichever one fits you. We will walk you through that at your consultation. What never changes is that your plan is designed, monitored, and managed by our doctors from your first visit to your last.

What Clear Aligners Can Treat in Adults

Clear aligners can handle far more than most people expect. According to the AAO, the most common conditions treated include:

  • Crowded or overlapping teeth
  • Gaps and spacing between teeth
  • Overbite, underbite, and open bite
  • Crossbite
  • Crooked or rotated teeth

For adults, we also see these situations all the time:

  • Relapse after braces: Teeth shift over the years. Restoring your smile is often faster than your first round of treatment, depending on how far things have moved.
  • Alignment before dental work: If your dentist is planning restorative work, straightening first can set up a better result. We coordinate with your general dentist.
  • Combination plans: Sometimes the best plan is aligners on one arch and braces on the other, or braces for a short time before finishing in aligners. We can design custom hybrid plans when your case calls for it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Clear Aligners for Adults

Am I too old for clear aligners?
Not at all. There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment, and our doctors regularly treat patients in their 40s, 50s, and beyond. What matters most is the health of your teeth and gums, not the number on your birth certificate.
Do clear aligners work for adults?
Yes, for many adults. Aligners can treat crowding, gaps, overbite, underbite, open bite, crossbite, and crooked teeth. Not every case is a fit, which is why your consultation includes an exam and an honest recommendation.
How many hours a day do I wear them?
Most adults wear aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Your doctor will give you a specific schedule for your plan.
Do clear aligners hurt?
They should not hurt, but expect pressure or mild soreness for the first few days with each new set. There are no wires or brackets to irritate your cheeks. Over-the-counter pain relievers and a little patience usually take care of it.
Can I eat and drink whatever I want?
There are fewer dietary restrictions than with braces, because you remove aligners to eat. Just brush before you put them back in so food is not trapped against your teeth.
What is the difference between Invisalign and SureSmile aligners?
Both are custom, clear, removable aligners designed by your doctor. They differ in their planning software, materials, and how they are made. SureSmile is built around 3D digital planning, and we can often print SureSmile aligners in-house. We will recommend the best fit at your consultation.
Are clear aligners or braces better for adults?
Neither is better for everyone. Aligners offer discretion and flexibility. Braces, including clear ceramic and LightForce, offer constant, built-in pressure that is a better fit for some bites and for patients who worry about wearing aligners consistently. We will give you an honest comparison.
Do I need a retainer after aligners?
Yes. Teeth have a natural tendency to move back toward where they started, so retainers protect the smile you worked for. We will explain your retainer plan, and because we have your digital records, replacements are straightforward.
